Since the summer of 2008 there has been a Committee for Women's Advancement (KFF) at the department of physics. This is an advisory body to the department council. The commission is - who would have thought it - committed to the advancement of women and equal rights. That means:

In this series of events, the professors present the current topics of their working groups. The event is primarily aimed at students in the 4th semester (single and combi bachelor's degree in physics) to give you orientation for your bachelor's thesis. After a short presentation (max. 20 minutes) you can ask questions. The event is not a compulsory event but an offer to find your bachelor thema early on.

The event takes place in the summer semester. Up-to-date information will be available here in good time.

We have been taking part in the Long Night of Science in Berlin with two stands since 2012. On the one hand we have an information stand that provides information about studying physics at the Humboldt University in Berlin and also a stand where a physical experiment can be carried out and explained by physics students.

The deparment council is the decisive body at the institute. He decides on the concrete implementation of teaching at the department (whereby chairs, etc. are a matter for the faculty), the financial plan of the institute, appointment committees, personnel matters and the like. Student members have voting rights and can veto everything.

The department council consists of 7 professors, 2 scientific employees, 2 employees for technology, service and administration and 2 students.

The ZaPF (meeting of all physics student councils) is the federal student council conference (BuFaTa) for physics and also the assembly of student representatives for physics in German-speaking countries. It takes place once a semester at different universities and is organized by the local physics student council. All information about the ZaPFen can be found in the ZaPF-Wiki or on the official homepage of the ZaPF e.V..

Tasks

As the name suggests, the Commission for Teaching and Learning takes care of all study matters. The most important task is to identify and correct problems in teaching and in the study regulations and examination regulations, as well as to write new study regulations. The development of a new study regulation can take 1-2 semesters

The KLS is an advisory body, so it works with the department council and makes suggestions and recommendations for improving teaching and studying.

As you've probably already noticed in one way or another, the situation on the Berlin housing market isn't exactly rosy, but we still want to give you at least a couple of clues for the apartment search here, so that hopefully it works out.

In general, you should start looking for an apartment as soon as possible.  If you are about to graduate from high school and would like to study in Berlin, then don’t wait until August/September to look for an apartment, but at best start looking for offers half a year beforehand.

The faculty council decides on everything that affects the entire faculty, but also on appointments, habilitations and study and examination regulations. As in the department council, students have the right to vote and veto, except for habilitations. Our Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences consists of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science and Geography.
