The peer mentoring program is an offer for first-semester students. It should help to keep the beginning of your studies as easy as possible and to take away as much of the "shebang" as possible.
General
According to German law, the habilitation committee is part of the official habilitation procedure. If a commission is appointed (by the faculty council), the departmen council must appoint a student representative for this commission. The student member has only an advisory function. The basis for the habilitation is the valid habilitation regulations (pdf).
Since the upper window flap in the student council room is not barred, it is possible for magpies and other feathered friends to get into the student council room. This acts like a trap: it's easy to get in, but unfortunately the stupid critters can't find their way back on their own. In the panic that sets in when flapping around on the glass pane, it can unfortunately happen that the sofa is covered with shit, so the Elsterexit (TM) operation should be carried out as quickly as possible:
Natural Sciences branch library
The library is located in the Erwin Schrödinger Center. She has from Mon.-Fri. 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sat. unfortunately closed since Corona. Before entering the library, jackets and bags must be locked in the lockers provided. A lock is required for this. There is a machine in the library where you can buy one for €7. Only work materials, books, laptops (without a bag) and transparent water bottles may be taken into the library itself; baskets are available for transport.
In addition to the lectures, you will of course work with one or the other book. Most lecturers will give you recommendations for literature or base their lectures on a specific book. It also doesn't hurt to take a look around for yourself. The only important thing is that you don't rush to buy books yourself, but look at them calmly and borrow them first. You have to be able to really work with the book, otherwise you won't get anything out of it.
School tours
If you want to see a physics department from the inside, you can let us show you the department and the campus Adlershof. The whole thing can be combined with a guided tour of the laboratory and a question and answer session with the student counselling service and students of the physics student council. If you are interested, just send us an email to fachini@physik.hu-berlin.de.
Be careful with the CHE ranking in the ZEIT study guide!
Internships help you to find out in which direction you want to develop. Here you will find links to internship opportunities and contact addresses for students who have completed an internship in the respective subject area. Maybe you will find inspiration for your next internship here.
If you have already completed an internship and are willing to share your experiences with others, we would be very happy if you would send us an email to fachini@physik.hu-berlin.de.
We meet regularly in a nice pub or bar. In addition to the opportunity to get to know new people and pubs, this is also intended as an opportunity to keep in touch with the student council and keep up to date without a great deal of commitment.
We are always looking for new locations, if you know something nice, feel free to suggest it! Ideally, we are looking for a non-smoking bar with table football that can accommodate around 20 physicists.
Here is a short guide on how you can really save money in the canteen.
