Bridging course
For the first semester students who start their studies in the winter semester, we organize a maths bridging course to refresh your maths knowledge before you start your studies and to get to know your fellow students before you start your studies. The course always takes place in the last two weeks before the start of the semester. You can find the official site here.
Freshman trip
The first semester trip is an event where you get very important information about your studies and also have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students. The trip is highly recommended – you can find more information here.
Orientation course
Before the summer semester, the orientation course takes place, which not only teaches math, but is also intended to prepare you for your studies. Just like the bridging course, the orientation course also takes place in the last few weeks before the start of the summer semester. You can find the official site here.
Christmas party
The Christmas party takes place before the Christmas holidays and is traditionally organized by the freshmen. There is music, grilled food, mulled wine and lots of fun like karaoke and other party games. The organization of the Christmas party usually starts at the beginning of the winter semester - if you want to participate, come to the student council meeting!
Freshman and student council regulars’ table
The regulars' table is intended to keep in touch with the student council in an informal way. The regulars' table takes place approximately every two weeks during the lecture period. We meet in different bars in Berlin to have a drink and chat. It's definitely worth stopping by if you want to stay up to date but don't want to/can't come to our sessions.
CP preliminary course
One component of the course is Computational Physics (computer application in physics). However, since the module is usually associated with a fairly steep learning curve, we organize a preliminary course to make it easier for you to get started with the topic. You will learn the basics of Python and will not enter the world of programming unprepared.
Your perspective in physics
Perspective is a series of lectures in which various working groups from the institute introduce themselves. The event is aimed at students who want to write a bachelor thesis in the near future. This gives them the opportunity to get to know the current topics from the various working groups and to be able to make a better decision on a topic. The perspective takes place in the summer semester and is primarily intended for students in the 4th semester, although of course everyone else is welcome to attend the events as well.
Long Night of Science
The student council usually offers a colorful program for children and young people as part of the Long Night of Science. The website with the current program can be found here: https://www.langenachtderwissenschaften.de/.
Lise Meitner celebration
The Master's graduates are celebrated at the Lise Meitner Celebration. The student council also participates every year by offering something to eat.
Auditorium cinema
The auditorium cinema shows current and old films for 1 euro in the auditorium. The auditorium cinema usually takes place in the Gerthsen auditorium. Film screenings are every Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Student council breakfast
Once a semester we organize a student council breakfast in the foyer of the institute, to which all physics students are cordially invited. We have a leisurely breakfast together all morning. Come by, have a coffee and breakfast with us for a small donation before your lecture. When a student council breakfast will take place again will be announced in advance via the student council newsletter.
